Clinical Performance Improvement
Consultants from QCMetrix excel at providing insight into the ACS NSQIP program and using the data to help drive change within an institution. Two examples of consulting work that continues to yield positive results are described below.
Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH)
MGH hired QCMetrix to develop a plan for a new Center for Clinical Effectiveness in Surgery (CCES). The goal was to create a data collection infrastructure that would motivate, facilitate and coordinate research activities within the Department of Surgery. These activities, in turn, would generate published papers and systems that would attract funding and recognition for the hospital. Other QCMetrix deliverables included:
- Promotion and implementation of the CCES vision and mission.
- Surgical clinical data integration.
- Creation of “dashboard” reports for surgical chiefs and hospital administration.
- Collaboration with administration to develop business plans and secure institutional funding.
- Quantifying the relationships between outcomes and costs.
- Benchmarking against emerging regional and national standards.
- Improved management of clinical care.
Partners HealthCare
QCMetrix has consulted to Partners on two significant initiatives. One was to work with the surgical chiefs in their network hospitals to educate and build awareness around optimal use of clinical and surgical outcomes data. The other was to develop a series of cross-network reports in conjunction with Partners leadership. The main goals of these reports were to compare clinical outcomes between hospitals, and to better inform decisions on:
- Resource allocation
- Service line analysis
- Third-party payor negotiations
- Public reporting
- Marketing
