Organization

The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP) involves the coordinated talent and dedication of a number of different parties, each with its own distinct set of responsibilities. The program is organized as follows:

ACS NSQIP Executive Committee

The ACS NSQIP Executive Committee is responsible for:

  • Oversight of the Program
  • Setting standards and operational and fiscal policies
  • Monitoring the performance of all entities involved in the Program

American College of Surgeons

The American College of Surgeons is responsible for the overall business management of the Program:

  • Fiscal management and administration
    • Contracting (definition, negotiation and administration) with participating sites and third-party vendors
    • Billing and collections
    • Disbursement, monitoring, and reporting of funds for program operations, in accordance with policies defined by the ACS NSQIP Executive Committee
  • Lobbying/education of key entities, such as Leapfrog, National Quality Forum (NQF).
  • Assurance of program’s regulatory compliance, such as Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA).

QCMetrix, Inc.

QCMetrix supports and manages the day-to-day operations of the ACS NSQIP.

  • Management of data collection
    • Post-contract medical center set-up and implementation
    • Nurse training, education, and coordination
    • Informatics development and support
  • Assurance of data reliability
    • Management of data audits, analysis, and feedback
  • Provision of reports, feedback and consultation to providers and managers at participating institutions.

University of Colorado Health Outcomes Program

  • Statistical modeling and analysis
    • On-going data analysis
    • Generation of O/E ratios and periodic reports
  • Oversight of research and of mining the ACS NSQIP database

Medical Center/Department of Surgery

  • Timely collection and submission of high quality data to the ACS NSQIP
  • Full support and effort in the program as a participating member
